Do you remember the excitement of experiencing something wonderful for the first time? Seeing the joy on someone’s face when they encounter the wonders of life afresh …

Here is your opportunity to help someone experience the greatness of the natural world up close and personal.

The Friends of the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa in Pretoria are developing a unique concept of allowing people with visual, hearing and mental disabilities to learn more about animals. It allows these special visitors to have the chance to touch and feel animals ranging from large antelope to small cats through the means of taxidermy. These taxidermy trophies bring the wildlife directly to them and touch their every sense.

Phase one will be the opening exhibition during the last two weeks of October 2006. The estimated cost for the opening of the exhibition will be approximately R150, 000.

Phase two will start as soon as finance is available, and includes the restoration of a historical building in the Pretoria National Zoo, so as to provide a permanent location for the taxidermy trophy exhibition. The approximate cost for the restoration has been estimated by the Architect to be between R500, 000 and R600, 000.

To make this possible for the two-week exhibition in October, we will be in need of the following:

Your financial support through a sponsorship of this project will allow these special people to learn more about animals than ever previously possible. In return for your valuable contribution all sponsors will be acknowledged and major sponsors will be allowed to co-brand this project in conjunction with the Friends of the National Zoo.

Other requirements are:

1. Plants

2. Stands for the trophies

3. Lightning on stands to illuminate the trophies

4. The sound effects of various animals will be dubbed onto a soundtrack

5. Remuneration for translators and guides

6. Funds for upgrading and maintenance of existing taxidermy trophies

7. Any possible contribution in the form of rendering help or donations towards the exhibition project will be greatly appreciated.
